A link is the one thing people click without reading

Something arrived and you do not recognise the sender

A delivery notice, a payment alert, a message from a colleague's address. The link is short, so the only way to judge it is to open it. Check the destination instead and the decision gets easy.

You are about to share it with other people

Forwarding a link passes on whatever is attached to it, including the campaign tags that identify where it came from. Worth knowing what you are handing over before it reaches a group chat or a newsletter.

You want to send a clean link, not a tagged one

Links copied from apps and marketing emails carry parameters that follow the reader. Ookii Fetch strips the ones it recognises and hands back a shorter link that still works.

This tool works differently on purpose

Ookii Fetch does not open pages in front of you. Instead, the URL is passed to a small server function that follows the redirects and returns only the routing information. That keeps the destination page from loading while still giving you a readable chain.

Reading the route

A redirect chain can tell you a lot if you know what you are looking at. Use the pattern below as a quick read before you trust the destination.

One stop, or just a few

A direct link is the clearest outcome. A few stops is normal for campaigns where email or analytics tools count the click before the destination loads.

An unfamiliar host in the middle

This is usually the handoff worth investigating. The familiar brand at the front does not tell you who owns every stop after it.

A name that only looks familiar

Look at the part right before the final dot. That is the part someone had to register, and it matters more than the rest of the words around it.

HTTPS does not equal trust

Encryption means the connection is private. It does not tell you the site collecting the click is honest.

Our server walked the path from where it sits. A page could still show a different route to another visitor based on location, device, or timing.

Some last-second jumps depend on code running in a loaded page. Because Ookii Fetch does not render pages, those moves stay out of view.
